What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a type of complementary medicine in which hypnosis is used to create a state of focused attention and increased suggestibility during which positive suggestions and guided imagery are used to help individuals deal with a variety of concerns and issues.

What does hypnosis feel like?

The way people typically describe the feeling of being hypnotised is to be in a calm, physically, and mentally relaxed state, in which they are able to focus deeply on what they are thinking about. They usually feel open-minded, and willing to think about and experience life differently, often in a more detached way than usual.
That said, there is no right way to feel when undergoing hypnosis.

Is Hypnosis dangerous?

Some people are more susceptible than others to hypnosis - these people are generally the ones who are more open and willing to allow themselves to relax and enter hypnosis. It is obvious that those who think they may be unable to be hypnotised or that hypnotherapy is abnormal and unusual can be prevented from relaxing and allowing hypnosis to happen.

Can I be hypnotised?

How does hypnosis work?

Through relaxation (similar to meditation) your brain waves will slow down enabling you to access your subconscious. Here, with help and guidance from me, forgotten information can be uncovered or positive suggestions can be added so when faced with an issue in the future you can react differently and generally understand how to cope better.

Can people get stuck in hypnosis?

No. This has never happened in the entire history of hypnosis. Even if the hypnotherapist just disappeared, you would simply emerge from hypnosis feeling absolutely fine.

Will I lose control?

No. You will be fully in control and will not explore anything you do not want to. Although it can be emotional to uncover some memories and thoughts from your subconscious.

Can the effects wear off?

Effects can “wear off” as they can become stored in your subconscious and temporarily forgotten. If this does happen a short 30 minute “top up” session should be all you need to return them into your conscious mind.

Is everything I say confidential?

Everything remains completely confidential as long as you pose no risk to yourself or to others. In these rare cases your agreed contact will be notified of my concern or the relevant authorities.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required will vary depending on the issue being treated and on the individual. The number of sessions suggested is only ever my recommendation and you are not obliged to have the number I suggest. All I ask is that you only book appointments you are going to attend. (See cancellation policy)

How long does a session last?

The length of a session will vary. Generally speaking the first session will last between 60 – 90 minutes with subsequent appointments being either 60 or 30 minutes depending on the type of induction preferred and the desired outcome of the session.

What if I need to cancel or change an appointment?

I require 48 hours notice for appointments to be cancelled with no charge.
If appointments are cancelled after this a fee of £20 for 30 minute appointments or £30 for 60 minute appointments is required to cover room hire costs.
